Jack Roslovic, the Colorado Avalanche's top free agent target, has publicly revealed that he will not consider signing with one specific team, the Edmonton Oilers, putting an end to any speculation about a potential move there.
Roslovic and his camp were firm about their preferred landing spots, and the Edmonton Oilers found that out the hard way.
Jack Roslovic refuses to sign with the Edmonton Oilers.
Jackson Weber from The Sporting News writes that the players who wait often end up settling for veteran minimum contracts or professional tryouts right before training camp to prove they still belong in the league.
However, Jack Roslovic, the top remaining unrestricted free agent, clearly deserves more than that.
Selected 25th overall in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the Winnipeg Jets, Roslovic has bounced around a few teams during his career but has consistently proven himself as a reliable middle-six forward.
"Because of that, everyone is surprised to see that Roslovic still hasn't found a new home, though TSN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun's latest report from Thursday's edition of OverDrive might tell us why. According to LeBrun, Roslovic and his camp weren't too flexible with where they were willing to sign, and the Edmonton Oilers learned that the hard way." -Weber
Here's what LeBrun revealed on OverDrive this week...
"We believe that he actually had something on the table in the summer from the Edmonton Oilers, and it didn't interest him. And what has also happened in the interim is he has changed agents. So obviously July 1 did not go like he wanted, so he fired his agent, went to a new agent. And obviously, certainly at the start of the offseason, he had certain parameters of where he wanted to go. I mean, I can't imagine turning down a chance to go play with McDavid or Draisaitl. So, yeah, he's still a UFA; I'm sure he'll catch on here at some point; he'll end up somewhere for sure." -LeBrun
The 28-year-old spent last season with the Carolina Hurricanes on a one-year, $2.8 million contract he signed during the 2024 free agency period.
"While he waits for the right opportunity to arise for his playing future, Jack Roslovic is skating and training in his hometown of Columbus.
Roslovic spent parts of four seasons from 2020-21 to 2023-24 as a Blue Jacket, having plenty of familiarity with the city and organization." -Weber
Given that, the Blue Jackets are definitely a team to watch in this free-agent frenzy, with ample cap space and potential roster openings that could make them an ideal landing spot.
