The Colorado Avalanche looked strong in their 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars, with Brent Burns standing out as he notched his first "unofficial" point in an Avalanche jersey.

It was good to see Burns perform well, especially with some backlash following his signing, it's good to see that he hasn't lost his stride at 40-years-old.

Brent Burns leads charge in Avalanche 4-1 win over Dallas Stars.

Coby Maeir of NHL.com reports that while Burns was noteworthy, there are some other players who also made their mark tonight.
"Brindley opened the scoring at 10:30 of the second period via a shot from the low slot set up by Ivan Ivan's backhand feed. Lehkonen gave the Avs a 2-1 lead at 3:42 of the third period with his second goal of the preseason via a backhand shot from the doorstep, finishing the rebound created by Nathan MacKinnon's left-circle shot. The Avs doubled their lead when Bardakov scored at 7:28 of the third period via a backhand shot from the doorstep set up by Lehkonen's feed." -Maeir

Ivan and Bardakov are both players to watch this season, each looking to silence critics after questions about their consistency. It's encouraging to see them getting off to a strong start.
Meanwhile, Burns registered an assist and three hits in the game, an intriguing stat considering how low his hit totals were last season.
Brent Burns already has 3 hits in his first preseason game with the Avs. He only had 11 hits in 82 games last season. I feel like he's willing to change his role into the physical presence the Avs need back there and will be willing to do whatever it takes to win a Cup this year.
Burns also led the team in ice time after the first period, which is no small feat at his age. He's clearly showing he still has plenty of hockey left in him, and if that continues, the Avalanche will look very smart for bringing him on board.
