Tonight marks Brent Burns' first appearance in a Colorado Avalanche sweater as they face off against the Dallas Stars, with Nathan MacKinnon also set to make his preseason debut. Puck drop is at 5 p.m. MT at Ball Arena.

Burns has already mentioned before that this still feels brand new to him, getting nervous and anxious before a game, as if he were still a rookie.

Brent Burns and Nathan MacKinnon set to make preseason debuts for the Avalanche tonight.

Aarif Deen of Colorado Hockey Now posted the lineups ahead of tonights game aganist the Stars, and while Burns and MacKinnon didn't dress last weekend, they will be tonight.
"Burns signed a one-year bonus-laden contract with the Avalanche on July 2. The 40-year-old longtime veteran of the league is still chasing a Stanley Cup to add to his career." -Deen

It's no surprise that Nathan MacKinnon is ready for both tonight's matchup and the start of the regular season, but questions continue to surround Burns, from his current form to the decision to bring in the 40-year-old veteran at all. Joining the two stars, several other Avalanche regulars will also make their preseason debuts this evening.
"Joel Kiviranta and Ross Colton round out the others who are playing their first game." -Deen

The Stars are taking the opposite approach, icing a lineup filled mostly with AHL players. Notably, Mikko Rantanen will sit out for Stars, along with their two starting goaltenders.
"Dallas is sending a mostly AHL lineup with NHL veterans like Lian Bichsel, Adan Erne, and Colin Blackwell leading the charge. Mikko Rantanen is not playing in this game, and neither of the Stars' top two goalies will dress." -Deen

This matchup offers Burns the perfect chance to get acclimated to the Avalanche's style of play.
Surrounded by several regulars and facing a lighter Stars lineup, he'll have the opportunity to experiment, test different looks, and figure out what works, and what doesn't, in Colorado's system
