The NHL Rookie Showcase marks the first sign of hockey in over three months for the Colorado Avalanche and fortunately for them, several prospects were quite impressive as we near the pre-season.

This is some much needed positive news after the Avalanche were ranked dead last, in regards to their prospect pool.

Rookie Showcase delivers impressive performance for some Avalanche prospects.

Aaron Poorman of Mile High Sticking recently reported on the Rookie Showcase for the Avalanche. While the team went 1-1 over the weekend, there is a lot to be positive about.
"Colorado may have only gone 1-1 over the weekend, but their competitiveness was consistent and adaptable. I love seeing that edge early. It's extra encouraging because this was also Mark Letestu's first major assignment, too. Keep in mind that Letestu was hired as the new Head Coach of the Colorado Eagles in early July. It makes perfect sense that he was handed primary coaching duties behind the bench for the Rookie Showcase." -Poorman

We all know about the current state of Colorado's prospect pool, but an encouraging weekend might raise their ranking down the road.
"The Colorado Avalanche prospects never quit on Sunday. When down 2-0, and later 3-1 they kept engaged with the game. Even when opting to rest Gavin Brindley yesterday, who might be the most talented weapon the Avalanche brought to the event, they were close." -Poorman

The standout of the weekend was Christian Humphreys. We recently highlighted his unusual move from the NCAA to the OHL, and it appears that switch is starting to pay off.
"Christian Humphreys scored in both games for the Avalanche. His tally against Utah was technically a game winner, and he used determination as much as speed to get his team on the board against the Golden Knights." -Poorman

Overall, there's little to complain about. Even in their loss to a strong Golden Knights team, the Avalanche stayed competitive, giving fans plenty of reason for optimism this weekend.
