Avalanche rocked as superstar defender exits preseason game after scary elbow

The Colorado Avalanche were dealt a major scare when superstar defenseman Cale Makar was forced to leave Sunday's preseason game against the Utah Mammoth after taking a dangerous elbow to the face, leaving fans and teammates holding their breath over his status.
The Avalanche opened up their preseason schedule with a doubleheader matchup against the Mammoth on Sunday.

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar provided a brief update on Makar's status...
Bednar says he thinks Cale Makar is doing fine but they'll see how he's feeling tomorrow. Called it precautionary to take him out.
Captain Gabriel Landeskog immediately stood up for Makar, dropping the gloves to defend his teammate after the dangerous hit.
Makar registered two assists before leaving the game.
