Avalanche rival pull off huge transaction that could shake up the Central Division

The Colorado Avalanche divisional rival St. Louis Blues have made a major move by signing veteran defenseman Cam Fowler, a move that could shake up the Central Division in the upcoming NHL season.
On Saturday, the Blues signed Fowler to a three-year, $6.1 million extension, keeping him in St. Louis and securing a crucial piece of their defense for the foreseeable future.

Charlie McAfee from The Sporting News writes that this essentially locks in the St. Louis' blue line for the long term.
Philip Broberg is the only potential question mark, but as a restricted free agent, it's unlikely the Blues will let him reach an offer sheet, and an extension is expected this season.
"Fowler registered 40 points in 68 games last season for the Blues and Ducks (9 goals, 31 assists) and had been a mainstay with Anaheim for the last 15 years since being drafted 12th overall by the team in 2010.

Fowler was acquired by the Blues last December in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and prospect Jeremie Biakabutuka.
With St. Louis still capable of fielding a competitive team, Fowler's extension helps keep their window of contention open a little longer.
