Crosby has been linked to the Avalanche in a potential blockbuster trade to reunite him with his hometown friend
Nathan MacKinnon.
Avalanche fans stunned after latest insider report on Sidney Crosby.
Daniel Lucente from Hockey Unplugged writes that NHL insider David Pagnotta made a surprising claim, revealing that the Penguins are open to trading almost anyone on the roster, though when it comes to Crosby, the price would be extremely high.
"Kyle Dubas is ready to rebuild the Pittsburgh Penguins in advance of Sidney Crosby's last stretch of competitiveness. With the clock ticking down and the team gradually getting further away from being competitive, however, it's a mighty tall order." -Lucente
The Penguins have been accumulating draft picks, having held 13 selections in the recently completed 2025 NHL Draft and an NHL-record 17 picks in the first three rounds across the next three draft picks. That total could grow even larger if Pittsburgh decides to move one of its veteran stars in a trade.
"
Erik Karlsson,
Rickard Rakell, and
Bryan Rust remain the targets of trade rumors. No trades are pending, but there is still anticipation that at least one will be traded. Bryan Rust, in particular, allegedly carries a "sky-high" price tag. The only plausible way for Pittsburgh to add more young, NHL-ready players before the 2025-26 season is through trades." -Lucente
Pagnotta's latest comments have reignited trade speculation, stirring the pot once again. While trade rumours had quieted in recent weeks, the NHL insider revealed that the Penguins are open to moving nearly anyone on the roster, including Crosby, though parting ways with their captain would require an absolute massive return.
"Pittsburgh, yeah they're selling everybody, almost, no Crosby's not getting traded; they're willing to sell, but it's a high price." -Pagnotta
Penguins' GM Kyle Dubas has a chance to set sentimentality aside and begin selling. Choosing not to would be a refusal to commit to a true rebuild, something the Penguins desperately need. With contention no longer a realistic option, the focus must shift to building for the future, starting immediately.
