Latest report reveals shocking update on Oliver Kylington
Evan Liu from Hockey Mountain High writes that Kylington's signing with the Avalanche over the summer raised some eyebrows. He joined the team in early August after departing the Calgary Flames as a free agent.
Kylington surprisingly made the opening roster over
Erik Brannstrom, who was later traded without playing for the Avalanche. However, Kylington didn't see game action until a few games into the season, a pattern that continued throughout the year.
"Kylington struggled with injury throughout the year. Hence, he only played in 13 games in an Avalanche jersey. In those 13 games, he only scored once and had three assists. Along with being hurt, he got scratched often. He also did not get sent down to play in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles either." -Liu
Though Kylington spent many nights comfortably seated in the press box, he wasn't staying put. The Avalanche needed reinforcements on both the blue line and at center, and Kylington served as a low-cost, easily replacement option on defense.
"Therefore, he was moved without much hesitation. He moved to the New York Islanders with Cal Ritchie, and a first and third-round pick in the NHL Draft. Colorado got a big return, with
Brock Nelson solidifying their 2C spot and another prospect in
William Dufour." -Liu
Kylington's stint on Long Island was breif, almost as soon as it began, it ended. Just one day after being traded to the Islanders, he was flipped across the country to the Anaheim Ducks. What the Avalanche received in return remains unclear, as the deal was for future considerations.
Kylington appeared in six games for the Ducks at Honda Center, recording one assist, fittingly in his final game of the season against his original team, the Calgary Flames. He also finished with a +1 rating. Now, Kylington heads into the offseason once again searching for a new home as a free agent.
