The Boston Bruins are reportedly gearing up to part ways with former Colorado Avalanche first-round center Casey Mittelstadt, signalling a fresh start for both the player and the team.

The Bruins may be looking to trade Mittelstadt as early as the upcoming season.

Bruins ready to move on from Casey Mittelstadt.

Nestor Quixtan from Heavy.com writes that a report published by RG Media on August 10 cited an anonymous source claiming the Bruins never truly planned to keep Mittelstadt after acquiring him from the Avalanche.
According to an anonymous NHL executive speaking to James Murphy of RG...
«I don't know how many rumors he's been in, but I've been hearing [Casey] Mittelstadt could be on the move again since before the Bruins season even ended.»

The Bruins kept Mittelstadt, likely because a trade deal never came together. The former 2017 first-round pick is now entering the second year of a three-year, $17.25 million contract he signed with Colorado last offseason.
Mittelstadt's underwhelming performance in Colorado led the Avalanche to move on from him. With the Bruins, the 26-year-old scored just four goals in 18 games.
Although he remains on the roster, Boston may look to trade Mittelstadt at the earliest opportunity.
Here's what the anonymous source added...
«I think a lot of teams have been and are expecting the Bruins to flip him at some point, but where's his value at right now if that's the case? They may just see how it goes this season. Maybe he reshapes his value, and if they're out of it again at the next trade deadline, then they move him then and parlay him into another pick or prospect.»

It appears Mittelstadt is barely part of the Bruins' future plans. The team may give him one final chance to prove himself before moving him to another club.
