Avalanche divisional rival eyeing bold new coaching hire

The Dallas Stars appear to be nearing the end of their coaching search.
The Stars fired head coach Peter DeBoer after a disappointing playoff exit to the Edmonton Oilers this past season.
Stars are closing in on signing their new bench boss.
Graham Baako from The Sporting News writes that according to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger in a post on X, the team has extended a head coaching offer to former Stars bench boss Glen Gulutzan after parting ways with Peter DeBoer.
"Glen Gulutzan has been offered the @DallasStars head coaching job. Negotiations on contract are underway" -Dreger
Gulutzan is a familiar name to Stars fans, having previously coached Dallas during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. During that stint, the team missed the playoffs in both campaigns.
"In his first season with the Stars in 2011, he led them to a 42-35-5 record (89 points), which was six points short of making the playoffs. In his second season, the NHL had a lockout season where teams only played 48 games. That year, the Stars went 22-22-4 (48 points) and finished in fifth in the Pacific Division." -Baako
Since his time in Dallas, Gulutzan spent two seasons as head coach of the Calgary Flames during thr 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns. He guided the Flames to the playoffs in his first year with a 45-33-4 record, though they were eliminated in the first round by the Anaheim Ducks. In his second season, Calgary missed the postseason after finishing with a 37-35-10 record.
Gulutzan has since revitalized his coaching career. He's currently serving as an assistant copach with the Edmonton Oilers, where he played a key role in helping the team reach back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers.
