The Colorado Avalanche made a huge splash with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday afternoon.
They tradedCharlie Coyle and Miles Wood to the Blue Jackets in exchange for forward prospect Gavin Brindley, a third-round pick, and a conditional second-round pick in 2027.
Graham Tiedtke from Mile High Sticking writes that standing at just 5-foot-9 and weighing 168 pounds, Brindley's size is uncommon by NHL standards and could raise questions about his ability to crack the Avalanche lineup rather staying with the Colorado Eagles. Still, it would be a mistake to write off his potential based solely on his stature.
"With the addition of Brindley, the Avalanche now have a new shortest player, if he ends up cracking the Avalanche's lineup instead of the Eagles. If he ends up with the Eagles, then he'd fit right in with several other smaller-frame players." -Tiedtke
According to scouting reports, including one from The Hockey Writers, Brindley excels in areas like puck battles and bringing physicality to his game, traits that could translate effectively during his time with the Avalanche.
"It remains to be seen if or when the Avalanche might want to call him up to the NHL, but my guess is that, at least for now, he won't see NHL time unless injuries start to happen like they did throughout the 2024-25 season. Let's hope that's not the case, but it would be cool to see Brindley play for Colorado." -Tiedtke
