Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup champion Kurtis MacDermid has been involved in a surprising and intriguing trade that has left fans speculating about the team's direction and roster moves as they approach the start of the 2025-26 NHL season.
Kurtis MacDermid has found a new NHL home ahead of upcoming season.
Andrew Wilimek from NHL.com writes that MacDermid has totalled 11 goals and 20 assists over his 288-game, nine-year NHL career. The son of former NHL player Paul MacDermid, he was born in Quebec City while his father was suiting up for the Nordiques.
"Standing at 6-5 and weighing 233 pounds, MacDermid is known as a tough customer, and has racked up 391 penalty minutes in those 288 contests, split between Los Angeles, Colorado, and New Jersey." -Wilimek
MacDermid carries a $1.125 million cap hit for both this season and the next, keeping a physical presence in the lineup, one who contributes on both defense and offense.
MacDermid was also part of the 2022 Colorado Avalanche roster that famously upset the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The veteran enforcer was not selected in the NHL Entry Draft. Instead, he signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Los Angeles Kings as an undrafted free agent on September 13, 2012.
MacDermid brings a physical, two-way presence to the Senators, providing toughness on the ice while contributing defensively and offensively, making him a valuable addition as Ottawa looks to strengthen its lineup for the 2025-26 season.
