It's an exciting week for Colorado Avalanche fans, as we have finally witnessed the return of Gabriel Landeskog to the ice. He was assigned to the Eagles for a conditioning stint.
It's official,
Gabriel Landeskog has taken the ice but not in the NHL. He's been assigned to the Colorado Eagles for the first time, taking the ice since the 2022 NHL season, the year the Avs won the Stanley Cup.
Now, as
Avalanchefans are hyped about his eventual return to the Avalanche lineup, we may have to hold steady because a return may not happen right away.
But according to Head Coach Jared Bednar, it could happen when Landeskog says he's ready to make the move.
Landeskog has been sidelined the last two seasons recovering from a serious knee injury, which required going under the knife to replace his knee cartilage in 2023.
Now on a conditioning loan with the Eagles, it's just a matter of time before he gets the call-up to the big club.
Typically for some athlete's this would've been a career-ending procedure, but Landeskog has taken part in some Avalanche practices sporadically, giving both the fans and team hope of a return to form.
Will he be the same player as he was before? It's difficult to tell, but the fact that he is healthy is a great sign.
If he does return to the lineup, the Avalanche would appreciate someone who's a consistent 20-goal scorer in the NHL, and would give them another weapon for the post-season push. However, Landeskog has to make the call according to Bednar.
The former Stanley Cup champion has played 738 games in the NHL and scored a total of 571 points (248 goals, 323 assists) and won a Stanley Cup in 2022.
