A new report may have revealed the details of Martin Necas' contract plans with the Colorado Avalanche, shedding light on what the star forward's future could look like as the team prepares for the upcoming NHL season.

The Avalanche may need to exercise patience regarding new contract negotiations for Necas and Jack Drury.

Martin Necas' contract plans with the Avalanche revealed in latest development.

James Wilson from NHL Trade Rumors writes that according to Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette, both Necas and Drury could wait to see how the market develops before committing to extensions.
With Kirill Kaprizov expected to command around $16 million per year from Minnesota Wild, agents are advising winger like Necas, Kyle Connor, and Adrian Kempe to hold off until that deal sets a new benchmark.
"Necas, acquired in the blockbuster deal involving Mikko Rantanen, is in line for a major payday. Entering his mid-20s with rising production, his camp has little incentive to sign before Kaprizov and even Connor McDavid finalize their next contracts. Any deal struck before then could undervalue him in a rapidly climbing salary cap environment." -Wilson

For the Avalanche, it creates some uncertainty, but also presents an opportunity to secure one of their top forwards on a long-term deal once the market stabilizes.
"While Necas waits on the winger dominoes to fall, Drury's situation is more straightforward. The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his deal and is expected to open the season as Colorado's third-line center." -Wilson

If he excels in that role, he not only cements a crucial spot on the roster but also eases Avalanche GM Chris MacFarland's trade deadline decisions. Rather than using assets to chase a center, the Avalanche could concentrate on extending Drury.
