The Colorado Avalanche are now facing immense pressure and heightened scrutiny after the NHL officially announced a deadline regarding star forward Martin Necas, a move that could significantly shape the team's immediate future and long-term plans.
Avalanche learn the official deadline to make their Martin Necas decision.
Aarif Deen from Colorado Hockey Now informs that the NHL has announced that the trade deadline for the 2025-26 season will fall on Friday, March 6, with all trades required to be submitted or queued for a trade call by 1 p.m. MT.
Unlike last season, the Avalanche will be in action on trade deadline day, six months from now. They'll be on the road facing the Dallas Stars at 6 p.m. MT.
For the Avalanche, this puts some much added pressure on a crucial decision regarding Necas, as the team must determine his future before the league-mandated cutoff.
The Avalanche have just one year remaining on Necas' current $6.5 million contract. Although he's eligible for an extension this summer, no new deal has been reached, despite the team already locking in players like
Josh Manson and
Parker Kelly.
Necas is bound to land a significant payday. After parting ways with Rantanen, the Avalanche now face a critical decision: pay up to keep Necas or risk coming out as the clear loser of the blockbuster trade made on January 24.
