The Colorado Avalanche and several players take the time to congratulate Alexander Ovechkin as he officially breaks Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, Alex Ovechkin had officially broken Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring resume against the New York Islanders.
Alex Ovechkin has officially surpassed Wayne Gretzky and now holds the all-time lead in goals with 895 career goals.
Ovechkin came very close to breaking the record the other night, when the Capitals faced off against the Blackhawks as he scored twice to tie the record, and almost got a third to complete the hat trick in the final minutes.

Colorado Avalanche issue special message following Ovechkin breaking the all-time goal record
Following Ovechkin's goal, the Colorado Avalanche organization took to social media and shared a special message congratulating him on the very impressive milestone.
No matter what your favourite team is, it's hard not to be happy for Ovechkin as he completes another massive milestone in his career.
