The Canucks appear to have been exploring the possiblity of acquiring
Byram throughout much of the season, and with ongoing trade rumours swirling around the young defenseman, that chance now feels more tangible than ever.
Former Avalanche Bowen Byram wants to play for the Vancouver Canucks.
Owen Fullerton from Canucks Daily writes that while the Canucks reporter Rick Dhaliwal has noted that several Western Conference teams are interested in the young puck-moving defenseman, Avalanche beat writer Adrian Dater reports that the former Avs player prefers to join the Canucks to be closer to his hometown of Cranbrook, British Columbia.
"I believe Byram wants to be a Canuck" -Dater
"Dater, who covered the early parts of Byram's career, could have an inkling into what Byram may desire, but he may also simply be making the assumption based on Byram's hometown." -Fullerton
The Canucks' pursuit of Byram might raise concerns about their confidence in keeping
Quinn Hughes long-term, but having players eager to join Vancouver after such a turbulent season is definitely a positive sign.
With speculation swirling about Hughes potentially wanting to join his brothers in New Jersey, there's growing talk that Canucks may soon face a pivotal decision regarding their captain: lock him up long-term or explore trading him for a massive return. If the latter scenario come into play, a player like Byram could be a crucial piece in filling that void.
Now, it's essentially up to Canucks GM Patrik Allvin and the rest of Vancouver's front office to determine if they can turn Byram's dreams into a reality.
