According to a recent report, the Colorado Avalanche are on high alert as Dallas Stars superstar Joe Pavelski prepares for a surprising NHL comeback.
Pavelski retired from the NHL on July 16, 2024, after 18 seasons in the NHL.
Joe Pavelski eyeing shocking comeback.
Vince Hull from Blades of Steel writes that the potential of Pavelski taking on a leadership role with the Dallas Stars, much like the position Joe Thornton just accepted with the San Jose Sharks, is now generating buzz around the league.
In a recent episode of the DLLS Stars Podcast, the hosts explored how Thornton's new role as a player development coach and hockey operations advisor with the Sharks could serve as a model for the Stars to potentially follow with Pavelski.
"They suggested that Jim Nill has already left the door open for Pavelski to step into a similar position once he decides to step away from the ice." -Hull
The podcast hosts pointed out that roles like Thornton's aren't defined by titles, but by the value of a veteran presence within the organization.
They added that personalities like Thornton and Pavelski bring more than experience; they create an environment where younger players can grow both on and off the ice.
Thornton's appointment was officially confirmed by the Sharks last week in a team announcement on their NHL page. Meanwhile, the Stars remain focused on developing their youth pipeline, with rising stars like
Mavrik Bourque and
Wyatt Johnston poised to take on larger roles in the near future.
"Adding Pavelski in a mentor capacity could provide a boost, much like Thornton is expected to do in San Jose." -Hull
Having Pavelski around in a mentorship or advisory role could be a major asset for the Stars, especially as the team shifts toward integrating younger players into more prominent roles.
His experience and leadership would be invaluable during this transition.
