Reports confirm when the construction of new $1Billion hockey arena in Colorado will begin
The Colorado Avalanche organization has received approval for a new ice hockey arena as part of a $1 billion entertainment district in Greeley, Colorado, major report.
On Tuesday, the Greeley City Council voted 5-2 to financially support the project, which will include a new home for the
Colorado Eagles, the Avalanche's minor league affiliate, along with youth hockey rinks, a water park, and a hotel.
The Cascadia Falls development proposed by Martin Lind of the Water Valley Company will span 1,800 acres with 300 acres dedicated to the entertainment district near Promontory Park, signalling a major change to the organization which already holds a rich history.
The project includes 6,000 residential units and 3.5 million square feet of retail and commercial space.
Construction is set for 2025-2026, with Phase 1 completion expected by 2028.
The new 8,600-seat arena is expandable to 10,000 for concerts and it will replace the Eagles' current venue at The Ranch Events Complex, where their lease ends in 2028.
For reference, the
Colorado Avalanche's arena which holds up to 21,000 roaring fans on game nights.
Supporters such as Mayor John Gates, praised the project as a «game-changing» development that will boost tax revenue without raising taxes, fund city needs, and address the demand for youth hockey facilities with three new ice rinks.
Lind's company will relocate operations from the NoCo Ice Center to the new Greeley site.
The city will fund the public-private partnership through bonds, general improvement district financing, and operating revenues.
