Last season's NHL trade deadline saw the Colorado Avalanche send Juuso Parssinen to the New York Rangers, and while he didn't experience much in Colorado, New York will be the land of opportunity for him.
New York has Parssinen's name penciled in at the 3rd line center position, and it will be up to him if he wants to solidify his spot.
Former Colorado Avalanche Jusso Parssinen to get newfound opportunity in New York.
Remy Mastey of The Hockey News, recently wrote about the emerging opportunity for Parssinen. He is slated to take the 3rd line center and it's his job to lose, according to the Rangers.
"Given his new contract extension, the Rangers will give Parssinen the leeway to earn the third-line center position. Through the first three days of training camp, the 24-year-old forward has been playing alongside Will Cuylle, a sign that the Rangers brass is giving him an opportunity to thrive and showcase his skills." -Mastey
Rangers coach Mike Sullivan believes Parssinen has what it takes to thrive as the third-line center, filling a key gap in the lineup, exactly why they chose to extend him.
"He's big and strong, so if he has to defend, he can lean on people, he's got a long reach, he skates well, he has awareness defensively, and there are attributes there that I think are admirable." -Sullivan
Parssinen's biggest criticism throughout his career has been inconsistency, which led the Avalanche to trade him. If he can find steadiness in New York, a world of opportunity awaits, starting on the Rangers' third line.
