If a well-connected insider is correct, the Colorado Avalanche might be in for a fairly uneventful offseason.
Following the signing of Brock Nelson to a substantial extension, the Avalanche are reportedly satisfied with the current makeup of their roster.
NHL insider reveals what's next Colorado this summer.
Nestor Quixtan from Mile High Sticking writes that the Avalanche appear to be wrapping up their offseason moves, at least for now. That was the impression NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared during last Friday's episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast.
"Friedman pointed out that the Avalanche don't really have much 'business to take care of' beyond re-signing Nelson." -Quixtan
Friedman also mentioned that both Jonathan Drouin and Ryan Lindgren are expected to hit the open market on July 1, leaving their potential return to the Avalanche uncertain at this point in the offseason.
"If Lindgren walks, his acquisition would have been a wash. A handful of regular season games and a seven in the postseason would be the balance on Lindgren's tenure in Colorado. Drouin would walk away following a relatively uneventful two seasons with the Avalanche. He had a solid season in 2023-24 but fell flat this season due to a number of injuries." -Quixtan
The Avalanche can easily part ways with both Drouin and Lindgren. However, what's more concerning is the price they paid to acquire Lindgren in the first place, giving up a second-round pick and Juuso Parssinen feels steep, especially if he ends up being a short-term rental.
In the end, the Lindgren trade might go down as one of those swing-and-miss moves that every general manager makes at some point in their tenure.
