NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has ignited controversy by levelling a bold tampering allegation against the Colorado Avalanche's divisional rival, the Minnesota Wild, raising serious questions about how the organization has conducted its business behind the scenes.
Insider drops bold tampering allegation against the Wild.
Tom Banks from House of Hockey writes that earlier this offseason, speculation swirled around Kaprizov and the Wild, with many expecting the two sides to finalize a long-term extension.
"However, despite GM Bill Guerin denying reports, the Russian winger turned down what would have been the biggest contract in NHL history, although the team still believe they can get him signed long-term." -Banks
Now, the saga has taken an unexpected twist, as Friedman dropped a bombshell on the Fan Hockey Show, suggesting that there may be elements of tampering involved in the ongoing Kaprizov situation.
"I do believe there has been tampering slash whispering going on; I'll never be able to prove it but I believe it." -Friedman
Friedman admits he can't prove it, but with Kaprizov a year from free agency and possibly trade-bound, teams could already be reaching out.
"Unsurprisingly, Friedman doesn't drop any details on what he believes here, but if there's any truth to his speculation, expect to here more about it as the Kaprizov situation develops in Minnesota." -Banks
In reality, tampering likely occurs far more than fans realize or the NHL would ever acknowledge. But with contracts skyrocketing across the league, if there's even a shred of truth to this situation, it could explode into one of the NHL's biggest stories.
