A new report has unveiled that 3 additional teams have entered the mix, each reportedly desperate to acquire Calgary Flames star forward and former Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup hero Nazem Kadri as trade buzz intensifies.
Kadri remains under contract with the Flames for four more seasons and is viewed as a key part of their core, yet trade rumours surrounding him have persisted all offseason.
Insider reveals 3 new teams desperate to land Nazem Kadri.
Anthony Losada from Athlon Sports writes that after ongoing speculation about possible returns to the Toronto Maple Leafs or Montreal Canadiens, three new potential landing spots have recently surfaced as serious contenders to make a push for the veteran center, should he officially hit the trade market.
Sportsnet's Ryan Dixon recently expanded the list of potential suitors for Kadri, naming the New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes, and Colorado Avalanche alongside the previously linked Canadiens and Maple Leafs, laying out compelling reasons why all five teams could make a play for the 34-year-old center.
"While Toronto and Montreal have been the focus of earlier speculation involving Kadri, Dixon believes a broader market is forming for the veteran Stanley Cup champion, who is coming off scoring a career-high 35 goals last season." -Losada
Kadri has four seasons left on his seven-year, $49 million contract, which comes with a $7 million annual cap hit. The deal includes a full no-move clause through the end of the upcoming season, followed by a modified no-trade clause for the final three years.
"Dixon mentioned the Avalanche, Kadri's former team and the one with which he won the 2022 Stanley Cup winner as a possible suitor, but they lack cap flexibility and would need to move a high-salary player to create room for Kadri." -Losada
The Devils, who currently have over $6 million in cap space, could make room for Kadri by sending a depth player back to Calgary along with future assets.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes, firmly in win-now mode, boast more than $10.6 million in available cap space, positioning them as a strong contender to pursue a Kadri trade.
