A new report suggests that one of the Colorado Avalanche's biggest rival is positioned to seize control of the Central Division heading into next NHL season.

According to a new report, an Avalanche rival is expected to rise up and take control of the Central Division in the upcoming NHL season.

Insider claims Avalanche aren't the best team in the Central.

Vince Hull from Blade of Steel writes that analyst Matt Larkin has pegged the Stars as the clear favourites in the Winnipeg Jets and the Avalanche by as many as 10 points.
"After three straight trips to the Western Conference Final, Dallas has established itself as one of the NHL's most consistent contenders. But with the division picture shifting, the path to the top of the standings may be clearer than it has been in years." -Hull

Daily Faceoff reports that the Stars' blend of depth, stability, and star talent gives them a clear edge over their Central Division rivals.
During Daily Faceoff LIVE, analyst Matt Larkin stated that Dallas has reached a level that its division rivals simply can't match.
"I actually think the Dallas Stars are in a tier of their own in that division because of the fact that the Jets are taking a step back. I think people are sleeping on the fact that Colorado is trending in the wrong direction

Their point total has gone down a couple years in a row, and their depth is getting shallower and shallower Their prospect pool is barren. There's no help coming So, because of that, I think this is the year that Dallas really separates and maybe wins the division by five or 10 points." -Larkin

The Winnipeg Jets, last season's Presidents' Trophy winners, are widely anticipated to experience a regression, while the Avalanche could be vulnerable due to salary cap constraints and a thin prospect pipeline.
"With Mikko Rantanen, Jason Robertson, and Jake Oettinger anchoring the lineup, the Stars have the star power to separate themselves." -Hull

The Stars' strength beyond their top players also makes them a formidable threat over the course of a long regular season.
