Former NHL legend sends shocking message to Avalanche's Devon Toews

Former NHL grinder Cal Clutterbuck was raving about how good his former teammate Devon Toews is, and how good of a fit he is with fellow defensemen Cale Makar.
Clutterbuck was recently interviewed on the Spittin' Chiclets podcast and discussed his time with Toews and how valuable of a player he is.
Cal Clutterbuck has high praise for fellow teammate Devon Toews.
Sean McKenna of Mile High Sticking covered the recent Spittin' Chiclets podcast, in which Clutterbuck joined the latest segment. The former Islander spoke about Toews and just how good he is, as well as the shock that came when he was traded.
"Clutterbuck continued to heap praise on Toews, discussing how he is a perfect fit as a partner for Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar, as Toews knows his lane and lets Cale do what he does. Toews knows the right times to add himself into the mix as well. He described Tazer as having an excellent first pass, vital for a quality defenseman, and that he's an excellent skater, also vital in the new-age, high paced NHL." -McKenna
From a player who had 17 seasons under his belt and has seen two full generations of all kinds of different players, speaking highly of Toews says a lot. Unfortunately, at the time he was traded, New York simply had too many defensemen and Toews was not as fully established as the premier defensemen he is now.
"Toews is a plus player every year, with a career high of +52 in 2021-22. He is a career +186 over his career. When Toews is on the ice, the team scores goals. More importantly, the team does not give up goals when he's out there." -McKenna
Looking at how far Toews has developed, it is quite clear the Islanders regret giving him up. Luckily for the Avalanche, they found the perfect partner in crime in Cale Makar.
Toews is signed with the Avalanche until 2030, which makes for several more great years to come for the top defensive pairing in the NHL.
