Fans are expressing outrage after Colorado Avalanche star defenseman Devon Toews received a surprisingly low ranking and harsh criticism in the latest NHL player rankings, sparking debate across social media and hockey circles.
Toews placed 17th among the NHL's top defenseman, according to the NHL Network.

Aarif Deen of Colorado Hockey Now broke the news of the latest rankings, and while Makar is number 1 and should be number 1, the questions start getting asked later down the list.
"As for Devon Toews? He's also there, but perhaps lower than he should be. He's listed at No. 17, just ahead of Mikhail Sergachev and behind Adam Fox.

It is important to note that these lists are often controversial and are meant to get people talking.
"No. 2 is Quinn Hughes which also isn't really much of a surprise. But the rest of the order is where the debates begin. They have Zach Werenski listed No. 3, which is understandable given where he ended up in the Norris race. Albeit I still wouldn't have him that high. Miro Heiskanen and Victor Hedman round out the top five. -Deen
It is not whether these twenty defensemen deserve to be on the list, but rather the order in which they have been placed in. Regardless, an important thing to note is that the Avalanche are only one of two teams to have two defensemen in the top 20.
