Hockey Canada stuns Avalanche fans with surprise decision on star players.
Adam Laskaris from DH Sports writes that on Friday, Hockey Canada unveiled its list for the upcoming off-ice orientation camp, scheduled for August 26-28 in Calgary. The roster includes 30 women, 27 of whom play in the PWHL, 42 NHL players on the men's side, and 20 athletes vying for spots on Canada's Paralympic sledge hockey team.
"It is the first Olympics since 2014 that NHL players are set to participate in. Though they had initially talked about going in 2022, they pulled out due to COVID-19 concerns." -Laskaris
Canada enters the camp as the reigning gold medalist on the women's side, having captured five of the seven Olympic titles since women's hockey debuted in 1998.
Meanwhile, the men's team will be looking to return to the podium after being shutout in 2022, a year that saw NHL players barred from participating, for the first time since 2006.
Over the coming months, the initial invite lists will be narrowed down to 23 players for the women's team and 25 for the men's, with the first puck drop at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, scheduled for February 5.
