Colorado Avalanche star Martin Necas and Czechia cruise to 5-0 victory over Germany on Monday

The reigning champions continue their dominant run. After a commanding 5-0 win against Germany on Monday, the Czechs have now stretched their winning streak to six games at the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Stockholm, Sweden.
This has sparked hope that the wild gold-medal celebrations in Prague from last year might happen again.

Lucas Aykroyd from IIHF.com writes that it was a showdown between backup goalies, with Czechia's Daniel Vladar earning a shutout against Germany's Mathias Niederberger. The Czechs outshot the Germans 25 to 19.

Avalanche forward Martin Necas was dominant all game, registering two assists and bringing his point total to 5 (2 goals and 3 assists) in 5 games.
With 17 points, Czechia is competing closely with Switzerland for the top spot in Group B. Unless Kazakhstan pulls off a big upset against Switzerland on Tuesday, the Czechs will need to secure a win, whether in regulation or overtime, against the United States in their final preliminary game to clinch first place.
Czechia will wrap up their preliminary round on Tuesday as they face a dangerous United States team who currently sit third and right behind Czechia in Group B.
