Cale Makar issues a bold statement regarding Nathan MacKinnon
On Wednesday, April 30, the
National Hockey League Players' Association announced that two of the three finalists for the 2024/25 NHL Ted Lindsay Award were awarded to two Colorado Avalanche players, forward Nathan MacKinnon and defenseman Cale Makar.
The Ted Lindsay Award is a unique one as it is the only NHL award that is voted on by the players themselves, carrying on a tradition that was establish in the 1970/71 season.
NHLPA members annually vote on the player they deem to be the most outstanding in the NHL regular season. The award was reintroduced in 2009-10 as the namesake of the late Ted Lindsay to honour his legacy as a Hockey Hall of Fame forward known for skill, tenacity and leadership, along with his role in establishing the original Players' Association.

NHL.comFollowing the two Colorado Avalanche players being named Ted Lindsay Award finalist, Cale Makar was interviewed, and his words about fellow teammate, Nathan MacKinnonx, said a lot and quite frankly exposed his true colors.
Cale Makar on being named a Ted Lindsay Award finalist alongside Nathan MacKinnon:
«I think [Nate] should probably win it again this year... but it's a cool vindication from other guys in the league.»
Despite Makar never winning the trophy himself, he shows no remorse in endorsing fellow teammate Nate MacKinnon in taking home another piece of hardware.
Avalanche faithful can only hope one of MacKinnon or Makar take home the sought after trophy, but the ultimate prize this season would be the Lord Stanley.
Puck drop for Game 6 takes place Thursday May 1st at 9:30 p.m EST.
