Avalanche top prospect thrilled to leave Colorado behind in latest development

After being traded from Colorado, former Avalanche top forward prospect William Zellers is excited to leave the past behind and begin a bold new chapter with the Boston Bruins.
Zellers was traded to the Bruins as part of a package deal that sent Casey Mittelstadt and a 2025 second-round pick to Boston, while Colorado received Charlie Coyle and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

The Avalanche entered the 2024-25 season with a strong roster built around a core of talented young players, while the Bruins struggled, prompting them to take a closer look at their prospects and potential new additions.
Kayla Gregoire from NESN reports that when Zellers got the call that he was being traded to Boston, he said he wasn't too shaken, recognizing that the NHL is a business. After speaking with his agent, he began to see the opportunities that awaited him with the Bruins.

«Talking with my agent after the fact and after everything settled down, he said, 'Overall, I mean, that Colorado team is pretty stacked. They've got their guys. They have unreal players. Of course, I'm not scared of any competition either at the same time, but also looking into it, the Bruins are kind of a little bit in a rebuild area right now, which is good for young players like me coming up and being able to make that roster sooner than I maybe thought.» -Zellers
