Avalanche legend's fiery demand to Islanders GM has fans talking
Colorado Avalanche legend and current New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy has made a fiery request to GM Mathieu Darche, a move that is generating plenty of discussion and speculation among fans.
Patrick Roy makes a bold offseason decision.
According to a recent Eyes On Isles article, Islanders GM Mathieu Darche has reunited with a familiar face from his days with the Tampa Bay Lightning, all thanks to Roy.
Darche appointed Jason Berger as the team's new assistant equipment manager.
Darche explained that he first met Berger when joining Tampa Bay's front office, where Berger had already earned a reputation as an energetic and highly organized member of the equipment staff. 'He's just full of energy,' Darche said Friday on The Jeff Marek Show.
When a position opened in the Islanders' equipment department, Darche explored candidates both inside and outside the organization but ultimately chose Berger, noting that he not only meets his standards but also adds a special spark to the dressing room.
"He's extremely organized and he brings energy in the room. Sometimes we downplay the role of these guys." -Darche
Darche had head coach Patrick Roy speak with Berger before the hire was finalized.
Here's what Roy told Darche about Berger...
«Oh my god, we need this guy. He's my type of guy-the energy just on the phone." -Roy
In Tampa, Berger served as the team's No. 2 equipment manager. With the Islanders, he will step into his first role as the lead equipment manager.
