A recent development has unveiled a surprising and significant career update for Nolan Roed, who is considered one of the most promising forward prospects within the Colorado Avalanche organization.

New development reveals stunning career update on prospect Nolan Roed.
Jackie Kay from Mile High Hockey writes that known for finding gems in the seventh round, the Avalanche hope their latest pick will follow suit by earning an NHL contract and eventually playing at the highest level. At 19 years old, Roed is set to begin his college career this fall with St. Cloud as part of their incoming freshman class.
"The Avalanche like prospects on a longer timeline to pro hockey and Roed fits the bill as someone who played the last two seasons in the USHL before heading to college." -Kay
In his first full season, White Bear Lake, Minnesota native had a breakout year, earning third All-Star tea honour. He led the Tri-City Storm in scoring with 60 points in 61 games, including 27 goals.
"NHL Central Scouting subsequently listed Roed at 135th for North American skaters in his second time through the draft, which is another hallmark of the Avalanche draft strategy. Overlooked late bloomers from the USHL on the NCAA path is where the organization has invested a lot of draft capital in recent years in the hopes that they can get an older college graduate across the finish line an into the NHL." -Kay
According to a St. Cloud State release, the Avalanche have growing familiarity with the program, especially following their recent signing of Husky goaltender
Isak Posch.
«Roed is the fourth Husky to be drafted by the Avalanche, joining Mark Parrish (1996, third round, 79th overall), Jeff Finger (1999, eighth round, 240th overall) and Ben Storm (2013, sixth round, 153rd overall).» -St. Cloud State release
there was a fairly strong consensus to rank Roed around the 20th spot among prospects. As a recent draftee, he gets the benefit of the doubt and plenty of time in college to showcase his skills and NHL potential.
Roed didn't skate at the Avalanche development camp, likely due to injury, which has limited early opinions on the young forward. However, he's ready to take the next step at St. Cloud State, and he'll be one to watch closely moving forward.
