Gustav Nyquist is on the move again. The 13-year NHL veteran has agreed to a one-year, $3.25 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets, the team announced last week.

The move comes a day before the Jets lost one of their key pieces in Nikolaj Ehlers after signing a six-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Avalanche rivals make desperate move in free agency.

Nyquist, 35, recorded 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 79 games last season, splitting time between the Nashville Predators and Minnesota Wild.
The left-shot winger is just one year removed from a career-best 75 points campaign with the Predators in 2023-24.
Originally a fourth-round pick by the Detroit Red Wings in 2008, Nyquist spent the first eight seasons of his NHL career in Detroit before being traded to the San Jose Sharks in 2019. He later suited up for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Wild, and Predators.
On the international stage, Nyquist has represented Sweden multiple times, most recently at the 4 Nations Face-Off this past February. His international resume includes a gold medal at the 2018 World Championships and a silver medal at the 2014 Olympics Games, two standout achievements in his career with Team Sweden.
Following the signing, the Jets would then lose out on one of their top goal-scorers in Ehlers to the Hurricanes. The 29-year-old winger, who was ranked as TSN's top free agent entering the market on Tuesday, attracted attention from several teams during the past few days. Ehlers signed to a six-year contract worth $51 million.
We'll see if the Jets can remain one of the top teams in the NHL after losing one of their top core players.
