The Colorado Avalanche's divisional rival, the Dallas Stars, are reportedly moving closer to completing a major blockbuster trade aimed at acquiring star defenseman Rasmus Andersson, a move that could have significant implications for the upcoming season.
Dallas Stars inching closer to blockbuster deal for Rasmus Andersson.
Matt Levine from Athlon Sports writes that there's been significant league-wide interest in Andersson, and many expected him to be traded already. However, it appears Calgary will begin the season with him and reassess before the trade deadline.
Two teams have reportedly piqued Andersson's interest in potential trades, with one option appearing far more logical than the other.
"According to NHL insider David Pagnotta, Andersson would prefer a deal to either the Vegas Golden Knights or Dallas Stars. Pagnotta also mentioned that the Flames almost sent the defenseman to the Los Angeles Kings, but Andersson declined to sign an extension in Los Angeles." -Levine
Of the two teams, the Stars seem like the more magical fit. Dallas is looking to strengthen its blue line, and Andersson could be the key piece to do so.
"Last season with the Flames, the veteran put up 11 goals and 20 assists over 81 games played in the regular season. Dallas has been searching for a way to get over the hump in the Western Conference, and Andersson could be the missing piece." -Levine
If the Stars manage to add Andersson, he would significantly bolster their blue line for the season. While the veteran remains with Calgary for now, a last-minute trade before the season opener can't be ruled out.
