The Colorado Avalanche's divisional rival, the Winnipeg Jets, have been rocked by a shocking health update concerning star forward Adam Lowry, just as the NHL season is about to get underway.

The Jets will be without their captain for at least the opening weeks of the season.

Jets captain Adam Lowry expected to miss some time early in the season.

Sportsnet reports that Lowry, who underwent hip surgery in late May, told reporters Thursday that his recovery is going well, and he's aiming to return to action in late October or early November, according to The Athletic's Murat Ates.
"Lowry then joked to Ates that he will be skating in 'solitary confinement' over the next few weeks to avoid aggravating the injury." -Sportsnet

The 32-year-old underwent hip surgery just 10 days after the Jets were eliminated in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Dallas Stars.
Lowry played in all 13 of Winnipeg's playoff games and scored the team's biggest goal of the season, netting the double-OT winner in Game 7 of the first-round series against the St. Louis Blues.
"A career-long Jet since being drafted in the third round (67th overall) in 2011, Lowry posted 16 goals and 18 assists in 73 regular-season games this season before adding four more tallies in the playoffs." -Sportsnet

Across more than 775 career games with Winnipeg, Lowry has tallied 121 goals and 152 assists. He is now entering the final season of a five-year contract signed in 2021, which carries an AAV of $3.25 million.
Following their Presidents' Trophy-winning season with a league-best 116 points, the Jets will begin their title defense on Oct. 9, hosting the Dallas Stars.
