The Avalanche are aiming to complete their roster this offseason, and a trade could be on the move that gets them there.
A defensive player like Andrew Peeke stands out as the Avalanche's most realistic trade target this 2025 offseason, and could be the missing piece that completes their roster.
Avalanche reportedly eyeing star defenseman from the Bruins.
RB Hayek from Clutch Points writes that Peeke won't light up the scoreboard, but his value lies in his defensive reliability. While he finished last season with just one goal and 16 assists, Peeke made his presence felt in other key areas, blocking 126 shots and delivering 105 hits. His physical play and commitment in his own zone cwould make him a valuable addition to the Avalanche blue line.
"Peeke did not have the best season with the Boston Bruins. Yet, it was not that long ago that he was very effective for the Columbus Blue Jackets. The 2022-23 season was a shining example, as Peeke had 180 hits and 197 blocked shots. Moreover, he had 191 hits and 169 blocked shots in the season before that." -Hayek
This is exactly the kind of presence the Avs need, especially considering they ranked just 24th in the NHL in blocked shots last season. Defensive lapses and costly breakdowns were far too common, and adding a player like Peeke could help stabilize things. Slotted into a bottom-pairing role, he'd bring much-needed physicality and shot-blocking to shore up Colorado's back end.
"The Avalanche would not have to send much. However, the main goal would be to get Boston to cover at least 50 percent of the salary to help Colorado with the cost. The Bruins have 26 million in cap space, so they could afford to take some of this on, especially if the Avs are to send a draft pick." -Hayek
In this scenario, the Avalanche could part with a fourth-round draft pick and potentially include a fourth-line forward to help balance the deal. The objective would be to round out the roster by adding the kind of steady, physical defender they've been missing. All things considered, Peeke checks the boxes, bringing the grit and defensive edge Colorado needs to go toe-to-toe with heavy teams like the Dallas Stars.
