Avalanche on high alert as division rival emerges as frontrunner to land Jason Robertson in blockbuster deal

The Utah Mammoth are among the leading contenders to acquire Jason Robertson, the Dallas Stars' top player and a key divisional rival to the Colorado Avalanche, in a potential massive blockbuster trade.
Reports indicate that Dallas has been open to entertaining trade offers for Robertson .

Ryan Dixon from Sportsnet writes that Robertson now has one year remaining on his current contract and just two seasons left before he becomes eligible for unrestricted free agency.
Despite having some very manageable contracts elsewhere on the roster, securing Robertson on a long-term deal to eliminate any unrestricted free agent concerns will remain a significant challenge.
"It's hard to imagine Dallas parting ways with a 25-year-old who already has two 40-goal seasons on the books, but then again who would have imagined Rantanen going on a roundabout journey that ultimately routed him from one Central Division contender in Colorado to another in Texas?" -Dixon
Even though the Mammoth recently added J.J. Peterka from Buffalo just before the draft, they remain a team you have to watch closely whenever a top young player is potentially on the move.
"Cap space has become a bit more limited for the Mammoth, but not to the point where the club couldn't find a way to make it work with Robertson. If anything, Utah could throw in a player like Nick Schmaltz - who has one year remaining on his deal at $5.85 million - to help Dallas recoup a top-six forward in the deal." -Dixon
Schmaltz could be included in a package led by draft picks, Utah holds three second-round picks in 2026, or promising prospects, both of which the Mammoth have in abundance.
Trading Robertson might pave the way for additional moves, with Utah and a few other teams positioned to supply the pieces Dallas needs to finalize their roster through further trades down the line.
