Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has unveiled a smart, carefully thought-out plan that could completely redefine his approach and make his comeback season one of the most impactful of his career.
Landeskog is now at the forefront of using technology to help athletes track important data throughout their injury recovery.
Gabriel Landeskog reveals the game-changing secrets fuelling his full-strength comeback this season.
Graham Tiedtke from Mile High Sticking writes that when it comes to managing an injury, every situation is unique, and Landeskog's 2022 injury was no exception.
The Avalanche captain dedicated extensive time to rehab, working tirelessly to get back on the ice. As he has mentioned before, the process was as mentally exhausting as it was physically.
What many may not realize, and what I recently discovered, is that Landeskog leveraged advanced technology to aid his comeback.
According to an article from the University of Calgary published on
ucalgary.ca, Landeskog used a microchip embedded in his socks and shoes to monitor key data, not only during his on-ice training sessions but also in his day-to-day life away from hockey.
The article went on to explain...
"These sensors allowed Jordan to monitor the biomechanics of Landeskog's every move down to the most minute detail, wherever he was located. For this, Jordan was in frequent contact with Marcin Goszczynski, BSc'09, a strength coach who was working with Landeskog."
If there was ever any doubt about Landeskog's determination to return to hockey, it should have vanished after watching several clips from the Avalanche's documentary.
The footage offered a behind-the-scenes look at the intense work he put in and the emotional journey he experienced.
Still, no amount of video could fully capture the depth of those emotions.
"On Tuesday, the Colorado Avalanche started out their 2025-26 season in Los Angeles to face the Kings. Landeskog was placed on the second line, as is familiar to Avs fans, and had an ice time of 11:12. While he didn't have a point in the 4-1 victory, he showed some physicality as well as leadership qualities, when he had some words for a Kings player who pulled
Josh Manson to the ice after a fight that was started after Manson laid a big hit.
I would be interested in knowing what the data showed during that fight. We obviously don't want to see any sort of injury to Landeskog, let alone during a fight." -Tiedtke
Hopefully, we'll learn more about how this technology has supported Landeskog throughout the 2025-26 season.
His comeback shows just how far sports tech has come.
