Trade chatter heats up as former Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup champion and current Calgary Flames top forward Nazem Kadri is reportedly linked to the Montreal Canadiens in a surprising new twist.

Recent reports have confirmed that Calgary is open to listening to trade offers for Kadri.

Antonio Losada from MSN.com writes that as questions about Kadri's future persists, a panel of NHL analysts has cast doubt on a potential return to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Instead, they view the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto's fiercest rival, as a far more likely destination, one that could offer Calgary enough in a blockbuster deal to make Leafs fans cringe.
During Friday's episode of the "SDPN" podcast, Adam Wylde dismissed the idea of a Kadri-Leafs reunion as unlikely.
«The Leafs have nothing to give them. And the Leafs and Flames are not-they're not doing business. [Kadri] probably understands that he's not likely to be traded... at least not likely to be traded to the Leafs." -Wylde
Wylde went on to suggest that the Canadiens are a much more realistic destination for Kadri, should a trade eventually happen.
«For the Montreal Canadiens, if they can go and get a guy like Nazem Kadri, they are probably the top 3 team in the division next year." -Wylde

Jesse Blake, speaking on the same podcast, added that Kadri would be a perfect fit in Montreal's lineup.
«He's exactly what they need-I don't know the assets they'd have to send out to get him from Calgary, but I think it's a perfect placement for him." -Blake

Steve Dangle echoes his co-hosts' sentiments, noting Montreal's deep asset pool and the obvious need for a second-line center behind Nick Suzuki.
"Kadri is coming off a 35-goal season, the best of his career. He carries a $7 million annual cap hit through 2029. As things stand, Montreal would need to clear cap space to make the move viable, as the Canadiens are $4.5 million over the cap." -Losada

Any trade sending Kadri to Montreal would require him to waive his no-move clause and sign off on a deal between the Flames and Canadiens.
