The Colorado Avalanche hold two selections in the 2025 NHL Draft and might consider targeting a physical player like Carter Klippenstein in the later rounds.

Klippenstein plays a strong and physical game, and there's no denying that the Avalanche can use some extra grit up front.

Avalanche has their eye on a specific prospect in this year's draft.

Graham Tiedtke from Mile High Sticking writes that Klippenstein could be a strong pick somewhere between the fourth and seventh rounds of the draft. He's a forward who played for the Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL and measures 6-foot-3, weighing 191 pounds.
"In three years with the Wheat Kings, Klippenstein played in 126 games, recording 24 goals and 25 assists, though he played in just two games during his inaugural season in Brandon and had no points. Klippenstein went from a plus-minus of -8 to a plus-20 from 2023-24 to 2024-25." -Tiedtke

Klippenstein is pexted to slot into a team's bottom-six forward group, which aligns well with the Avalanche's lineup, featuring Arturri Lehkonen and Gabriel Landeskog occupying the top two left-wing spots, and Miles Wood on the third line.
"Klippenstein might be able to use his physicality on special teams for the Avalanche in a couple of years. It's one of the most important things that players can do: Excel at what they do best wherever the team asks them to play." -Tiedtke

Even if Klippenstein doesn't reach the NHL, he could still have a future with the Colorado Eagles down the line. Ultimately, some players are meant for the NHL while others find their place in the AHL, and completely fine. Still, it would be exiting to see someone like him thrive in burgundy and blue.
We'll see if the Avalanche decide to take a chance on him.
