Colorado Avalanche fans are reeling after an NHL writer released a jaw-dropping prediction for the team's upcoming season, suggesting major shakeups in the standings could be on the horizon.
The Avalanche have been active this offseason, and their most recent move
adds a veteran sniper to the roster.
NHL writer makes bold prediction about the Colorado Avalanche next season.
Adam Proteau from The Hockey News writes that the Avalanche signed forward
Victor Olofsson to a one-year, $1.575 million contract, strengthening Colorado's third line and boosting the offense on a team already stacked with high-scoring talent.
Olofsson's signing exemplifies the Avalanche's ability to keep getting stronger, further solidifying their position as a legitimate Stanley Cup contender for next season.
"The Avs' group of forwards was already elite before adding Olofsson, but examine Colorado's depth up front, and you can't help but come to the conclusion - at least, in this writer's opinion - that the Avalanche are the favorite to leapfrog past the Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars and win the highly competitive Central Division in 2025-26." -Proteau
Looking at the Avalanche's top three lines, it's clear they're swimming in talent, with more firepower than most teams could hope to field.
"And here's one more thing to make you appreciate MacFarland's work: after the Olofsson signing, the Avalanche have $1.3 million in salary cap space. If MacFarland hangs on to that amount of cap space and allows it to accrue during the season, he's going to have $6 million to spend at next year's trade deadline. That should be terrifying to Colorado's opponents, because you know Avs brass are going to spend every penny available to them." -Proteau
The Jets and Stars won't make it easy, but the Avalanche have built a talent-loaded squad poised to improve on last season's third-place Central finish, making them a serious Cup threat and a danger to push Dallas and Winnipeg down the standings.
