Colorado Avalanche fans were left stunned after a new report confirmed that Sidney Crosby will not be leaving the Pittsburgh Penguins, putting an end to swirling trade rumours that had sparked speculation about his future.
Crosby has been linked to multiple
trade rumours throughout the entire offseason.
New report reveals Sidney Crosby isn't leaving Pittsburgh.
Chris Gosselin from Hockey Feed writes that although Crosby signed an extension through 2027 and most fans and analysts don't expect him to leave the Penguins, trade rumours have still linked him to the Avalanche, Montreal Canadiens, and Los Angeles Kings.
However, on Thursday, teammate Kris Letang revealed a telling detail about Crosby that highlights just how unlikely a trade out of Pittsburgh really is.
"Letang shared that Crosby picks up his son Alex from school every day and walks home with him. It's a small gesture, but it speaks volumes about Crosby's priorities and his connection to his teammates and their families." -Gosselin
This same loyalty Crosby shows off the ice is reflected in his play on it. For nearly 20 years, he's led the Penguins to three Stanley Cups, shaped the next generation of talent, and cemented himself as the face of Pittsburgh hockey. Even with the organization now shifting into a rebuild, there's no indication he's entertaining the idea of leaving.
"The Penguins may face challenging years ahead, but having Crosby in the fold gives them stability, leadership, and continuity. And while other stars in the league weigh their options each offseason, Crosby's decisions seem rooted in more than contracts and statistics.
Reports out of Pittsburgh have recently indicated that Crosby is fed up by the ongoing trade rumours and that he signed up for the Penguins' plan. His loyalty to the team has been mentioned every single time a trade rumour has come up." -Gosselin
And for Crosby, it goes beyond the organization. It's about the bonds he's built with teammates, the lifelong friendships, and the next generation, like Kris Letang's son Alex, who to Sid probably feels more like family than anything else.
