Colorado Avalanche fans are left furious after the divisional rival Dallas Stars a recent report revived a long-standing and infamous controversy involving former All-Star goalies Marty Turco and Eddie Belfour from years ago.
Among the most legendary chants in Stars history is the famous «Eddie's Better,» a nod to '90s netminder Ed Belfour, the Stanley Cup-winning goalie who preceded Turco and cemented his place in Dallas lore.
Avalanche haunted by Stars' latest announcement.
Brian Sweet from Blackout Dallas writes this chants began during the Stars' 2000 playoff run as they aimed to return to the Stanley Cup Finals. Although they made it back, they ultimately fell to the New Jersey Devils. Throughout that period, Belfour faced many challenges, yet his ability to push through and perform at high level truly remarkable.
"Fast forward to the heated rivalry today, the Eddie's better chant has evolved into Otter's better. It's still one of the iconic phrases that continues to echo the American Airlines Center but for another goalie in this day and age." -Sweet
Belfour ranks among the best goaltenders in Stars history, even though he didn't finish his career with the team. He led the Stars to a Stanley Cup victory and famously helped eliminate Patrick Roy and the Colorado Avalanche from the playoffs two years running.
"Today, Belfour's name has been added to the Dallas Stars Hall of Fame. That's a pretty prestigious honor for such a good goaltender. His contributions at the end of the 90s will never be forgotten, like his chant that fans still remember to this day." -Sweet
I know Avalanche fans still despite that iconic chant to this day. Belfour will forever haunt Colorado's history thanks to his legendary playoff performances against them.
