The Colorado Avalanche's divisional rival, the Minnesota Wild, are reportedly preparing to offer superstar forward Kirill Kaprizov one of the largest contracts in franchise history.

Kaprizov appears to be closing in on a massive payday in the near future.

Wild closing in on signing Kirill Kaprizov to a record-breaking deal.

Andrew Peters from the Bleacher Report writes that according to NHL insider Eliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast, Kaprizov's next contract could come in at eight years and $16 million per season, a staggering $128 million deal that would be the largest in Wild history.
"Kaprizov, 28, is entering the final year of a five-year, $45 million deal and is set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason if a new contract isn't reached before then." -Peters

Wild owner Craig Leipold shared optimism about securing a new deal for Kaprizov this week, even joking that he already has the star forward's "contract in his pocket."
"I just feel like we're not that far off. I kind of think we're there. I like to believe when Kirill comes over and gets a sense again for the excitement and the love of the city, I think we'll be moving forward in a good direction." -Leipold

Edmonton Oilers star Leon Draisaitl currently owns the NHL's richest deal at $112 million over eight years ($14 million annually), while Alex Ovechkin's 13-year, $124 million contract from 2008 still stands as the league's all-time highest in total value.
Now, Wild owner Craig Leipold appears prepared to hand Kaprizov a deal that would eclipse both marks.
"This will be a huge deal - likely the biggest in the NHL ever. There's no better human being or better hockey player or better person than Kirill. I think it will be a good conversation that we'll have with him. I'm very anxious and looking forward to that conversation. I think we'll move quickly after that." -Leipold

Entering his sixth NHL season, Kaprizov is coming off an injury-shortened campaign where he still managed 25 goals and 31 assists in just 41 games before undergoing surgery on a lower-body issue.
