The Colorado Avalanche are expected to be an elite team entering this season, but the one thing holding them back is their bottom-six forward depth. Jack Drury could be the one to put the Avalanche over the edge and contribute to a deep playoff run.

If Drury can establish himself as a solid third-line center, there is no limit to how high the Avalanche can go.

Jack Drury can answer the Colorado Avalanche's prayers.

Aarif Deen recently reported that the Colorado Avalanche's success depends on the quality of its depth, and we could expect that quality from Drury.
"They barely have competition for their third line center role, and they don't have many pieces to trade to make it more competitive. But they do have a 25-year-old Drury, who is about to get the best opportunity he's gotten since entering the NHL. Drury's time with the Avs was somewhat up in the year when he was first brought in. General manager Chris MacFarland quickly labeled him a 3C, and that was the role he played." -Deen

When the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 2022, they had ample depth, especially at the center position, and they will need that again to remain Cup contenders for the immediate future.
"When the Avalanche were building towards their 2022 Stanley Cup championship, they had a handful of young centermen trying to solidify key roles in the lineup. Alexander Kerfoot was coming off of a four-year college career, while Tyson Jost and J.T. Comphers left school early to make the leap to the NHL." -Deen

The Avalanche ultimately landed Nazem Kadri, who proved to be the difference-maker in their 2022 Stanley Cup run. This season, however, the situation is different. Without that same internal competition at center, someone will need to step up and take on the role. Unless a trade happens midseason, Drury is the one they'll be relying on to provide it.
Drury is heading into the final year of his contract, and this season could be pivotal for his future. If he wants to secure another deal and solidify his place in the NHL, he'll need to take that next big step in his career.
