The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced that it will serve as the host for the 2025 Rookie Showcase.
The annual event, featuring prospects from select NHL teams, is scheduled to run from September 12 to 14 at the South Suburban Sports Complex in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
The Avalanche are involved in something unusual.
NHL.com reports that the Avalanche last hosted the showcase in 2016, and the tournament traditionally rotates locations each year among the participating franchises.
"The three-game event will feature top prospects of the Avalanche, Utah Mammoth and Vegas Golden Knights. The showcase configuration sees one game on Friday, Sept. 12, one game on Saturday, Sept. 13 and one game on Sunday, Sept. 14. The full game schedule for all three teams can be found below." -NHL.com
The world's future stars will battle it out, each taking a crucial step toward their NHL dreams. With the upcoming NHL Draft set for Los Angeles, the Avalanche fans will get a preview of potential draft participants during this year's event in Highland Ranch.
"Further information, including but not limited to fan attendance and playing rosters, will be announced at a later date. Tickets will be made available to the public in August." -NHL.com
Colorado's top two prospects, Mikhail Gulyayev and
Ilya Nabokov, will have started their KHL seasons by the time the tournament takes place and are unlikely to participate.
Sure, October is still a few months off, and preseason games and rookie tournaments might not grab every hockey fan's attention. But hey, who can resist a little appetizer before the big feast begins?
