Avalanche fans stunned after sacrificing key piece of their future.
Adam Kierszenblat from The Hockey News writes that in return, Tri-City received the 37th overall selection in the 2025 CHL Draft, a first-round pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft, a third-rounder in 2029, and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2027.
"Curran has spent his entire WHL career with Tri-City. In 105 games, the 18-year-old recorded 106 points and was named the 2025 WHL Scholastic Player of the Year. After his rookie WHL season, Curran was drafted by the Avalanche, going 161st overall in 2024." -Kierszenblat
Depending on who comes back, the Edmonton Oil Kings could have a trio of Czech players on their roster next season. Curran may join forces with
Adam Jecho and
Miroslav Holinka, both of whom had strong 2024-25 seasons. With CHL teams permitted to carry up to three players for the 2025-26 campaign, it's possible all three could suit up for Edmonton.
During the 2024-25 season, Curran paced the Americans in scoring, racking up 74 points (22 goals, 52 assists) over 65 games. The organization extends its gratitude to Curran for his impact over the past two seasons and wishes him all the best as he begins the next chapter of his career in Edmonton.
Following the trade, the Americans now possess the 25th and 37th overall selections in the first round of the 2025 CHL Import Draft, as well as the 86th overall pick in the second round, giving them three total selections. Additionally, the Americans now hold two first-round picks in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft, bolstering their future draft capital.
The 2025 CHL Import Draft is set for July 2.
