Despite holding only two selections in the entire 2025 NHL Draft, the Colorado Avalanche could still come away with one of the biggest steals of the year.
According to recent reports, the Avalanche could have their eye on two very promising late-round picks.
Avalanche poised to pull off the biggest steal at the NHL Draft.
Nestor Quixtan from Mile High Sticking writes that Shamar Moses would be a perfect fit in Colorado.
Moses is a sneaky winger who currently plays for the OHL's North Bay Battalion and is ranked 104th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
According to Elite Prospects, Moses possesses exceptional vision, likened to having 'eyes on the back of head', which enables him to make smart playes under defensive pressure. He's portrayed as a creative and dynamic playmaker who can impact the game from all areas of the ice.
The scouting report from Elite Prospects also adds...
"On top of never giving away his intentions, he can fire missiles to the top of the net, shield possession on the wall, and push through checks before sending passes to teammates in space." -Elite Prospects
If Moses can successfully translate his game to the NHL level, he has the potential to be one of the steals of the 2025 Draft. He projects as a middle-six forward who could add valuable offensive depth, with the upside to become a 20-goal scorer and contribute 40 to 50 points per season.
"At 6'1» and 203 pounds, Moses shows the potential for size as a power forward. If he can grow into his body, Moses' speed, skills, and size could make a great addition to the Colorado Avalanche." -Quixtan
This season, Moses tallied 12 goals and 36 assists for a total of 48 points over 61 games with North Bay. His stat line suggests he leans more toward being a pass-first playmaker.
