The Colorado Avalanche are super lucky to have the superstars they have on their team, and a recent announcement just revealed exactly how elite Cale Makar is as he's about to make NHL history.
The Avalanche are currently on a crucial three-game road trip, although they don't need the wins, if they can catch the Dallas Stars in the standings, and pass them it would go a long way.
If the Avalanche did pass them in the standings (highly unlikely) it would grant them home ice advantage which could go a long way in the playoffs.
Last night the Avalanche took a step in the right direction to catch the Stars after beating the Chicago Blackhawks, and fans almost got to witness history.
Cale Makar Nearing NHL History
The Colorado Avalanche had to battle back from being down 2-0 entering the third period against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.
Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar stepped up huge for the Avalanche with Makar scoring his 29th goal of the season, and MacKinnon picking up his league leading 111th point.
Makar now sits just one goal away from scoring his 30th of the year, and would be the first defenseman to hit this feat since Mike Green did it back in the 2008-09 season.
Cale Makar would go on to pick up another point when the he got an assist on the game tying goal which game with just over 8 seconds remaining in the third period.
Cale Makar scored number 29, one goal away from history.
Makar will have to chance to score his 30th goal of the season tonight if the Avalanche's game tonight doesn't get canceled .
There is some speculation it may get canceled as the Avalanche were having traveling issues due to severe storms.
