Washington Capitals defenseman Alex Alexeyev was arrested Monday morning for public intoxication.

ARLnow was the first to report on Alexeyev's arrest Monday afternoon.
Officers witnessed Alexeyev assaulting a male subject and deployed pepper spray, and he was charged with public intoxication and taken into custody.
The Russian defenseman was booked into the Arlington County jail at 4:19 a.m. on Saturday and has since been released. A court date has not yet been publicly disclosed.
According to RMNB, a spokesperson for the Capitals issued the following statement.
"We are aware of the situation involving Alexander Alexeyev and in the process of gathering additional information." -Capitals spokesperson

Alexeyev's mugshot shows the Capitals defenseman smiling, still missing the front teeth he lost after taking a high stick from Jake Evans in Game 1 of Round 1 of this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.
According to ARLnow's report, scanner traffic indicated that the incident occurred outside Big Tony's Pizzeria, directly across from the Clarendon Metro station.
According to RMNB, Alexeyev, a 2018 first-round pick, appeared in just eight regular-season games but was thrust into a full-time role in the playoffs following Martin Fehervary's season-ending knee injury. He played in all 10 postseason games, averaging 10:24 of ice time per night.
Over parts of four seasons with the Capitals, Alexeyev has suited up for 80 NHL games, tallying eight points (1 goal, 7 assists). He is set to become a restricted free agent this summer.
